about

"A sound that gives the impression of smouldering in flames." - Disagreement

"Fire makes pristine use of a stellar influence expanding on monotony and ambiguity, and it's an all around thrilling listen." - Destroy/Exist

It’s been four years since the last Crystal Shipsss album Holly. A mini album that used drum loops and sole CS member Jacob Faurholt’s Microkorg keyboard, to create a pretty clean pop universe with occasionally noisy outbursts. With the new CS album Scorched Faurholt dives back into the lo-fi psych territory of his earlier output. The recordings are fragile and at times heavy, as on the Twin Peaks inspired track “Fire”, a song written and recorded with longtime CS collaborator Jens Christian Madsen of the Copenhagen based electronic outfit Tjaere+Fjer. It’s not random that Scorched has a similar feel to early CS albums as the eerie debut Yay (2012) or the doomy I Will See No Moon No Sky (2015). The reason is that Scorched mainly consists of unreleased recordings from that exact period, some used as they were and some remixed in Faurholt’s home studio. Scorched is in some unexpected way a lost album that has now surfaced, due to a dive into Faurholt’s old external hard drive.
